Oil, acrylic, and oil pastel paintings inspired by architecture in Cincinnati, OH, emphasizing lighting and atmosphere of everyday beauty in the city.

Snow in Sunlight
Oil on canvas, 11" x 14", 2025

I frequently walk past this house on my way to work, campus, or grocery stores. The winter months allow a beautiful quality of light to be reflected off the snow, combined with 5pm sunsets, creating everyday moments of art. I was particularly inspired by the sliver of  sun on the side of the house combined with the blue shadows of snow.

The fire escape outside my bedroom window has become a place for long conversations, laughs, and rest. After dark, the street becomes quieter but alive, watching lights in windows go out and people coming home from outings. The buildings and windows become vessels to view private life after hours. I created an oil pastel drawing first to map out concepts for an oil painting.

Fire Escape at Night
Oil on canvas, 11" x 14", 2025
Fire Escape (drawing)
Oil pastel on paper, 8" x 11", 2025
Sycamore Street
Oil on canvas, 18" x 24", 2025

Sycamore Street is home to one of my favorite diners that my dad and I frequently visit. The buildings in OTR are unique and historical, complimented by tree lined streets that turn orange in the fall.

Farmhouse
Oil on wood board, 8" x 8", 2025

Alongside my interest for busy cities, I also admire rural landscapes of rolling hills and horses grazing. I often pass by this big blue farmhouse on my way to and from Cincinnati. I was inspired by the greens and blues of natural landscape.

Lights Left On
Oil on wood board, 8" x 8", 2025

Continuing themes of private life after dark, I was fascinated with the individual lamp left on in view of the window.  The varying degrees of closed and open windows give the building a living feeling, as if the houses and cars are closing their eyes for the night.

Summer on Paris Street
Acrylic on canvas, 18" x 24", 2024

The vibrant shades of summer and dappled light from sunshine glowing through trees create interesting and alive shadows. This house is across the street from a friend's house, encapsulating the bold colors and warmth from shady summer days.

Park Ave
Acrylic on canvas, 10" x 20", 2024

These houses are visible from a large bridge on Park Ave, I find it interesting how I often end up painting the side view of houses rather than the front. I enjoyed the sharp shadows contrasted with the spotted light from the trees, and the way the buildings are tucked into the greenery like an embrace.

Dusk
Oil pastel on paper, 8" x 11", 2024

Oil pastels allow saturated and textured drawings to be made in a short amount of time, making them ideal to capture fleeting moments of lighting. This building is viewed in a parking lot where I take out the trash, creating private, daily snapshots of everyday beauty and life.

Footprints in Snow
Oil pastel on paper, 9" x 12", 2024

Snow has a unique ability of leaving physical evidence of life, such as footprints left in snow, tire marks, and shoveled driveways and cars. I was inspired by the deep, clean footprints left outside at night, in front of a makeshift frat house located across a previous college apartment, viewable from the top level of a parking garage.

Golden Apartments
Oil on canvas, 16" x 20", 2024

This was one of my first oil paintings, I remember struggling with the slow drying and thick consistency of oil paint, and simultaneously falling in love with the rich, saturated pigments of oil.
